One-Line Verdict
“A story of the desperate and weighty survival of ordinary people amidst a world mired in mud—a turbulent, murky torrent.”
Overview
The fates of a man with a hidden past, a wise and just woman, and an upright man intertwine.
The story is set at Mapo Ferry on the Han River—known as *Gyeonggang*—where all the wealth and goods of Joseon converged.
Jang Si-yul (Rowoon) lives a rough life as a street tough at Mapo Ferry while hiding a painful secret from his past, yet he stands up against injustice. Meanwhile, Choi Eun (Shin Ye-eun) leads a merchant guild as a genius trader, displaying exceptional business acumen and aspiring to become the greatest merchant in Joseon.
Jeong Cheon, a long-time friend of Si-yul who stands against a corrupt world, becomes a junior officer at the Left Police Bureau (*Jwa-podocheong*) with the aim of serving as an upright official after graduating at the top of his class in the military examinations.
